Two Audi R8's next to one another

Cold Engines & Hot Cars: Coffee and Cars OKC April

April 11, 20253 min read

This past Saturday morning, I took my 2008 Audi R8 out for a spin to the Coffee and Cars meet in Oklahoma City. It was a particularly special day for me because it marked my first time attending the event since I bought the R8 back in November of 2024. Despite the cold drizzle that hung in the air and the threat of snow adding an extra layer of hesitation for many, I wasn’t the only one willing to brave the weather for a good morning of horsepower and conversation.

The conditions were far from ideal—chilly temperatures, a steady drizzle that made the pavement slick, and the looming possibility of snow in April! It was the kind of weather that usually keeps even the most dedicated enthusiasts at home, but the turnout still had a certain warmth to it. There were fewer cars than usual, which is no surprise when you factor in the forecast, but the people who did show up were clearly committed. You could feel the camaraderie in the air, a bond between those who knew this was a rare opportunity to connect over cars, no matter the weather.

As I rolled in with my Audi, I couldn’t help but admire the passion on display. Some people were bundled up, cameras in hand, still determined to appreciate the machines that did make it out. It’s always impressive to see that level of dedication, especially on a day when the weather was testing just how far some would go for their love of cars. It wasn’t a massive turnout, but the ones who were there made their presence known in the best way possible.

The organizers had hot coffee and hot chocolate at the ready, a welcome sight for anyone willing to stand outside and brave the chill. There’s something about holding a steaming cup while walking past rows of beautiful cars that transforms a regular Saturday morning into a special ritual, rain or shine.

Among the standout vehicles were a few tastefully modified Mustangs, each one looking like it had been meticulously thought out and crafted. Trucks of all shapes and sizes, both new and old. All of them with obvious elbow grease put into them, showing the love and pride these enthusiasts have for their creations. A sleek Lexus LC 500 made an entrance, and its high-end aftermarket exhaust sang through the morning chill, grabbing everyone’s attention. The Volkswagen crowd also made a showing—grouped up in one area, all talking amongst themselves and sharing their awe and love for the brand as always. It was a testament to their love for the cars and the scene.

A personal highlight for me was seeing another Audi Club member there, sporting a stunning grey 2nd generation R8 V10. Connecting with a fellow Audi enthusiast is always a great moment, especially when they’re driving such a machine. It’s nice to know that even in less-than-perfect conditions, you can still find others who share the same appreciation for these cars.

Even with the rain, the snow looming overhead, and the chilly temps, the event still had an undeniable charm. The police officers present also played a crucial role in keeping the meet safe for everyone, ensuring that despite the informal vibe, there was still a sense of order and security. It’s great to see the local authorities support the car community, and their presence made the whole experience feel more relaxed and enjoyable.

There’s something magical about seeing taillights glowing through the mist, hearing exhausts echo off wet pavement, and sharing knowing nods with fellow drivers who “get it.” The weather might have kept some people away, but for those of us who showed up, it was a morning well spent.

Here’s to more meets, better weather, and the ever-growing car scene in OKC. See you at the next one.

Fueled by passion, driven by detail.
