Maxed Out: Verstappen Stays Ruthless as Rivals Struggle to Keep Up

Engsta Rides F1 Recap – April 2025

Formula 1 is firing on all cylinders, and the past few race weekends have brought the perfect mix of domination, team tension, and high-stakes rivalries. Max Verstappen? Still the top dog. But there’s plenty happening behind him that’s making this season one to watch.

Let’s get into it.

Max Verstappen: Still the Standard

Max Verstappen is doing Max Verstappen things—racking up wins, barely breaking a sweat, and reminding the rest of the grid that the title runs through him. Despite a more competitive field this year, Max has remained ruthlessly consistent. His win last weekend was a textbook example of how to control a race from start to finish. He may not always have the fastest car in every sector, but he’s extracting everything from the Red Bull RB21—and then some.

It’s clear: if anyone wants a shot at the championship, they’ve got to go through Max. And right now? That’s still looking like a tall order.

McLaren: Performance Meets Pressure

McLaren’s pace has been impressive, with both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri flashing brilliance in qualifying and keeping Red Bull honest on race day. But behind the scenes, things are getting dicey. Team strategy has come under fire, especially as both drivers continue to push for top-dog status within the team.

There’s no doubt the car is good enough to fight for podiums—and even wins—but the internal tension is starting to show. If they can’t get their intra-team dynamics sorted, they risk letting their own talent get in the way of progress.

Ferrari: New Era, Old Problems?

The big shake-up this year came with Lewis Hamilton’s high-profile move to Ferrari, replacing Carlos Sainz in what’s easily the most talked-about transfer in recent memory. It was supposed to be a dream pairing—Hamilton’s experience and hunger for one last title combined with Ferrari’s resources and legendary pedigree.

So far? Mixed results. The pace is there in qualifying, and Hamilton has shown glimpses of his trademark race craft. But Ferrari’s Achilles’ heel—strategy calls and execution—continues to bite. Leclerc, meanwhile, has kept things competitive but is no doubt feeling the pressure of sharing a garage with a seven-time world champion.

The team’s potential is sky-high, but unless they can clean up their pit wall decision-making and stop leaving points on the table, they risk turning this blockbuster driver lineup into a season of what-ifs.

Looking Ahead

With Verstappen taking another commanding win last weekend, he’s building the kind of momentum that feels so very familiar. But McLaren and Ferrari both have the raw pace to mount a challenge—it’s just a matter of whether they can get out of their own way.

Next stop: Bahrain...a circuit that favors high speed and daring overtakes. Will we finally see someone crack the Red Bull armor? Stay tuned.
